The following message is relayed on behalf of the Hon John Kobelke MLA, Minister for Consumer and Employment Protection.

John Carstairs

Council Chairman

“Dear Co-operative Federation Members,

Co-operatives have a long and proud history in Western Australia. The co-operative structure provides an opportunity for groups of people to work democratically together towards common interests and goals. Co-operatives have made substantial economic and social contributions to Western Australia, particularly in agricultural and regional areas. The challenges for co-operatives in the 21st century are greater than ever.

I have asked the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection to discuss the current legislative framework with representatives from the Federation in order to gain a better understanding of your needs. I encourage you to take the opportunity to talk to your Federation representatives to ensure your views are heard.

John Kobelke MLA

Minister for Consumer and Employment Protection”
